Our Story: From Childhood Dreams to Premium Beef
Four decades of cattle expertise meets genuine family values
The story of Gordey's Best Beef begins with a young boy watching a 1966 movie called "The Rare Breed," starring Jimmy Stewart and Maureen O'Hara. That film, about bringing premium Hereford cattle to Texas, planted a dream in JimBo Gordey's heart that would take decades to fully bloom.
Growing up on a small farm in Louisiana, JimBo learned cattle ranching from his father and uncle, who ran a successful cow-calf operation with Black Angus and Polled Hereford cattle. But life had other plans first – a 38-year career in the insurance industry that brought him to West Texas, where he built a successful agency while the dream of full-time ranching remained tucked away.
